blog_post_beat_holiday_stress_smOh, holiday-time madness. Family and friends gathering in town for the festivities, traveling to spend time with relatives, office holiday party after friend holiday party after family holiday party, gift planning and buying beating the mall rush and sales, pine needles and ornaments, a million things to do and seemingly no time to get it done … the list goes on, and on, and on.

Beat the stresses of the holidays with these six helpful tips to keep you feeling joyous, peaceful and under control all season long.

Eat healthily. With all the tempting sweet treats like cookies and candies, and hearty holiday meals day after day, it’s important to stay on track with your regular, healthy diet of whole and nutrient dense foods. Indulge a bit, of course! But stay balanced with a steady diet of healthy eats to keep you feeling energetic and your body feeling satisfied.

Get good rest. It can be easy to stay up all night after an office holiday party, work those extra hours to take vacation time off, giftwrap those last minute presents for family and friends, or bake those treats for your child’s school holiday party. Make sure to get quality sleep, between 7.5 and 8 hours of sleep per night. Have 30 minutes free during the day, curl up and take a catnap. Good sleep will keep your body feeling well rested, ready for all the holiday enjoyment.

Embrace holiday activities. It’s only once a year, so get out there and take a ride on the holiday activity train! Check out an outdoor holiday skating rink for some ice skating excitement, visit the “jolly old man with a red suit” for a little gift-wishing, or take a tour of the local popular streets that are glittered from door-to-door with lights and holiday cheer. It’s only once a year, so embrace it and enjoy the season for all its worth.

Take a break. Sure, holiday-related everything can be overwhelming, regardless of how much fun it may be. Take a break from the holiday vibes and your seemingly never-ending to-do list and take some time for you. Schedule an appointment at our spa to treat yourself to a day of luxury and unwind from the busyness with a massage, facial, pedicure and more.

Keep working out. You knew this was coming, didn’t you! Don’t give up on your commitment to staying healthy and fit through ongoing exercise. Schedule time in your busy calendar, whether it’s 15 minutes or 90, for some heart-pumping exercise to boost your mood and restore your mind.

Do a good deed. ‘Tis the season … to give back! Do something good for others to share the joy and love of the holiday season. Volunteer at a local food bank, offer to help someone you know in need of an extra hand or donate extra food or gently used clothing items to a local nonprofit organization to help others and lift others’ spirits.
