breast cancer aquatics class

strengthening after surgery

According to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, exercise can aid in improving strength and range of motion after breast surgery. The Breast Cancer Aqua Class (B.C.A.C.) at the Wellness Center is designed for women who have recently had breast cancer surgery or who have finished treatment and need a program to help them regain their strength and mobility. It may also be appropriate for women who have developed arm lymphedema as a result of surgery or treatment.

water class offers gentle workout

In this cool-water workout, special attention is paid to gentle range of motion and strengthening exercises for the arm, chest and upper back. A moderate aerobics section is also included. Private locker and shower areas are available to breast cancer patients. aquatic class schedule

The class is free to Wellness Center members, and available to non-members by purchasing packages of five or 10 classes. For more information on the Breast Cancer Aquatics Class call (502) 896-3900 x302, or contact us online.

special help for lymphedema

Lymphedema, or chronic swelling of the arms, legs or other body parts, occurs when the lymphatic vessels are compromised and can be a result of breast cancer surgery. Baptist Hospital East has a Lymphedema Clinic specifically designed for the treatment of these patients – the first of its kind in the Louisville area. An experienced occupational or physical therapist works with patients and their physicians to determine the best plan of treatment. Physician referral is required for the clinic, which is located near the Emergency Department at Baptist East. For more information, or to schedule a screening, call (502) 897-8137.
