At the Baptist East/Milestone Wellness Center, we've developed several options to help you prepare for a healthy pregnancy through exercise. And, many of these programs will be helpful after delivery as you ease back into exercise (and ease out of your maternity clothes). |
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends regular exercise to help you look and feel better during a time when your body is changing. Exercise during pregnancy can help improve your mood; reduce bloating and swelling; promote muscle tone, strength and endurance; help you sleep better; increase energy; and alleviate lower back pain. The most important step in planning an exercise program during pregnancy is to talk with your doctor. Based on your individual medical history and any complications with your pregnancy, your doctor can make the best recommendation as to the type of exercise program right for you. |
For your safety – and that of your baby’s – physician approval is required to participate in any of the pre- and post-natal exercise classes. Choices include: |
| Pre-Natal Yoga |
These classes offer postures and mild exercise designed to help with pregnancy. You’ll also learn to strengthen specific muscle groups, breathing techniques and relaxation for an easier labor and delivery. |
| Pre- and Post-Natal Aerobics |
These low-impact aerobics classes offer cardiovascular conditioning and resistive exercise training for toning. Includes the use of steps and hand weights. |
| Fit-for-Delivery (Water Exercise Classes) |
Enjoy exercising in our 25-yard pool or warm-therapy pool. Classes include warm-up, a cardiovascular workout, toning, stretching and strengthening. Great for helping moms sleep better at night! |
| Polliwogs |
New mothers and fathers can enjoy time in the water with their baby in this "introduction to water" class. Open to babies 6 months to two years, accompanied by a parent. For more information on this six-week class, including fees, call 896-3900, x132. |
| The Oasis Spa |
Our spa services can help you relax to feel and look your best throughout your pregnancy. Our certified massage therapists offer pre-natal massage to ease the stress of busy days and re-energize you as you prepare for your new addition. We also offer facials, manicures and pedicures. |
| Child-Care Services |
Whether you’re looking for help with your baby’s sibling or your newborn, the on-site child-care center will warmly care for your children while you work out. Children as young as 6 weeks old are welcome. Fees are based on hourly rates. |
All classes (except where noted) are available free to Wellness Center members. Non-members can participate in selected pre- and post-natal classes by purchasing packages of either five or 10 classes. For prices call (502) 896-3900 x302, or contact us online. |
