Video #3 | Summer Skincare
It is almost summer and that means being outside with more sun exposure. We talked with Leslie, of Oasis Spa, and Jeff, of Milestone, about the best tips and tricks to keep your skin flawless this summer! Don't forget, the best alternative to sun exposure for darker skin would be a spray tan or self tanner.
SPRITZ YOUR SCALP
Hair can offer some shade from the sun, but the sensitive skin along your hairline and part still get bombarded with harmful UVA and UVB rays. Use a sunscreen spray along your part. It's harder for creams to be absorbed there, and you can still burn. Also, remember to block harmful rays when you're out during the day; even during cloudy days use sun protection. Sun rays can penetrate light clouds, mist, and fog. When looking for a good SPF make sure you pick 50+ and see zinc oxide and titanium dioxide listed in the ingredients.
DON'T FORGET YOUR HANDS
The thin skin on your hands wrinkles and pigments easily, so be sure to use sunblock daily.
FIND A LIGHTER FORMULA
“A lot of sunscreen is heavy and oily,” Somerville Skincare notes, adding these can contribute to breakouts and shine during the summer months. “If you can't find something you like, keep trying!” Somerville has super lightweight version, Protect 55 SPF Serum.
EAT YOUR SPF (REALLY!)
“There's some evidence that oral intake of vitamins C and E together can limit potential for sunburn,” Dr. Giles notes. A salad with vitamin C rich citrus, berries, tomato, and vitamin E rich nuts is an ideal SPF meal.
APPLY SUNSCREEN IN THE BUFF
Before hitting the beach or pool, use SPF over the whole body, naked, and let it dry before putting on that suit. 20 minutes should be ample time to allow the sunscreen to bond with the skin, giving you the ultimate protection.
SPA TREATMENTS
Leslie mentioned infusing Vitamin C into your skin. One way to do this is with a microdermabrasin which will boost your skin's immune system, help with pigmentation and give a youthful look.
Triad Peel
This peel combines Vitamin C, Salicylic, Lactic and Citric acids. It benefits skin that has significant sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne and hyper-pigmentation. It also promotes collagen and elastin formation and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a more even skin tone.
