Member Highlight | Ed Joyce

Posted by Monica Resch on Monday, December 03, 2018

Ed has been a member of Milestone since 2004.  He knew he needed to exercise, as his occupation necessitates a lot of sitting.  So, in order to get active, he came to Milestone because it is in close proximity to his home and gave him no excuse to not exercise.  When he first came to Milestone, he met with a personal trainer, Alison Cardoza, in order to learn the basics of how to exercise correctly, proper form for lifting weights, and how to use the cardio and strength training machines.  He was sporadic with his exercise schedule at first, attending a few days a week and doing light cardio and light strength training exercises.  He eventually hit a plateau in his fitness and was uninspired with his exercise routine.  Eventually two years ago, Ed started thinking about his retirement.  The thought crossed his mind, “When I retire, I want to be able to do anything I want.  I don’t want to be limited in the activities I can do because of my (lack of) fitness.”  So, he decided to make a change and go to the next level in his fitness.

Brett Workman is an IRONMAN!

Posted by Monica Resch on Thursday, November 01, 2018

Ten years ago, then-24-year-old Brett Workman was rushed to the hospital for the fight of his life.  Extreme stomach pain associated with complications from that which would later be officially diagnosed as Crohn’s disease, warranted an emergency appendectomy.  Brett was given a 40% chance to live through that first night in the Intensive Care Unit.  Just having found out a couple weeks before that his wife was pregnant, Brett channeled all his willpower to make it through those long hours, so he could be a part of his daughter’s life.  He had more living to do and more he wanted to accomplish.  Brett refused to let this be the end for him.

Personal Training Highlight | Chanda Day

Posted by Monica Resch on Tuesday, June 26, 2018

From observing Brenna, I felt she was a trainer who would challenge me. When I began working with her, I was looking for some new ideas to add into my workout routine.  I did not anticipate what a huge positive effect she would make not only to my fitness regimen, but also to my overall health.  She has provided lots of new, interesting exercises that I have incorporated into my workouts. In addition, she educated me on how to construct workouts that are impactful and time-efficient.  I have always been dedicated to working out.  With Brenna’s help, I am now more organized and productive.

Lena Hartlage - Personal Training Highlight

Posted by Monica Resch on Thursday, February 22, 2018

My name is Lena Hartlage and since January of 2017, I have lost over 80 pounds and more than 30% of my starting body fat percentage!  My weight has been an issue I’ve battled my whole life- from the 3rd grade when I wasn’t allowed in a club because there was a weight restriction; to a college graduate struggling to find professional clothes for a plus-sized woman.  Dieting and exercising to lose weight have been a part of my life since I was a teenager.  Each time I would have a small amount of success followed by gaining the weight back and then some.

When I made the decision a little over a year ago, to finally commit to improving my health, I can honestly say it was the best decision I’ve ever made.  It has been a rough year, each day with new challenges and obstacles, but between the support of my loved ones and my own determination, I have achieved success.

Jeane & Patti's Trip to Antarctica!

Posted by Monica Resch on Monday, February 05, 2018

Jeane and Patti have been Milestone members since 2010.  It had been on their bucket list for many years to take a trip to Antarctica.  Finally, the time had come… they had booked their trip.  Jeane and Patti were so excited to kayak, hike, and enjoy all that the outdoors have to offer.  However, five months before the date of the trip, Jeane was hit by a bicycle and broke her collarbone.  This would certainly put a damper on her ability to do the physical activities that they had planned!  To make matters worse, two months before the start of the trip, Patti tripped on a tree root, breaking her ribs!  The two were very concerned about their ability to kayak, which was to be a highlight of the trip!
